DC53 is a new type of cold work die steel improved on SKD11, and its technical specifications are contained in Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) G4404. It overcomes the weakness of SKD11's insufficient high temperature tempering hardness and toughness, and partially replaces SKD11 in the field of general and precision molds.
Compared with SKD11, DC53 has the following advantages:
(1) DC53 is better than SKD11 in machinability and grinding, so the tool life is longer and the machining time is less.
(2) The quenching hardness of DC53 is higher than that of SKD11, so it can improve the defect of insufficient hardness during vacuum heat treatment.
(3) High temperature tempering can reduce or eliminate residual internal stress, and can prevent cracks and deformation during wire cutting.
(4) After surface hardening treatment, the surface hardness of DC53 is higher than that of SKD11, so it can improve the mold performance.
(5) Since the preheating and postheating temperatures are lower than those of SKD11, repair and welding operations are relatively simple.
