Processing & Inspection Machine List.pdf
Powder high-speed steel is a technology for making alloy powder. It has been developed in countries with advanced metallurgical technology for more than 25 years. After continuous improvement and breakthroughs, high-quality powder alloy high-speed steel has been developed. The powder high-speed steel has ASP23, ELMAX and other products.
Uses: Heat-resistant and wear-resistant steels with extremely high hardness (HRC 63~70) and high hardness (HRC 60 or above) and high wear resistance can still be maintained at 550~600℃. The cutting tools of machine tools are also partly used for high-load molds, aerospace high-temperature bearings and special heat-resistant and wear-resistant parts.
Performance:
1. Good grinding performance;
2. Good heat treatment dimensional stability;
3. Good toughness;
4. Good red hardness;
5. Good wear resistance.

Q1: What are powdered steels?
A: Powder Metal Steel. Powder Metallurgy, Powder Metal and/or PM High Speed Steels are alternatives to conventional steels since they have properties such as high hardness and toughness that cannot be attained in high speed steels that are produced through conventional methods.
Q2: Why is powdered steel better?
A: Powdered steel is made by sintering different metals in the alloy into a very fine grain where the different elements are bonded into a consistent microstructure. It is a very precise method done in a laboratory rather than a steel mill. The resulting alloys have the best edge retention and can be easy to re-sharpen.
Q3: How is powdered steel made?
A: The metal ore is crushed and then mixed with another material, usually carbon. Once the mix is complete, it's put through a furnace to create a reaction that lowers the oxygen and carbon levels in the powder. The reduction in carbon and oxygen leaves the metal mix resembling a less-delicious sponge cake.
Q4: What are the disadvantages of powder metallurgy?
A: 1. There are often size limitations to PM parts that can make certain designs impossible to produce.
2. Complex-shaped parts can also be challenging to make.
Parts are generally not as strong or as ductile as cast irons or forged parts.
Q5: Does powdered steel rust?
A: Powder-coated steel is highly resistant to rust in most cases, so it won't develop unsightly rust patches or leave red streaks on a patio or building facade. However, if it sustains damage, small cracks in the coating may appear, admit moisture and allow rust to form.
